Just continuing to drone on

Mid-August and we finally find ourselves in a stretch of settled weather. That makes it one whole night now. Avoided a brief downpour earlier in the day, but the night developed into one heck of an evening. Nought we can do in any event, we are at the whim of Mother Nature. She treats us as she will. Take what she gives and enjoy what you get. Never know what the next day may bring. Hopefully, next time it rains, it’s not a Tuesday.

Couple of beautiful games out on the field. The first was closer than expected. Well, at least close in how it finished in proximity to the start of the second game. That said, the second game was an up and down affair, finally ending in a tie. Well, at least the players were up and down, sometime standing, sometimes not, always tempting the law of gravity but never breaking it. The game was as close as it could get and counts up there with horseshoes and grenades. Better since, with the latter, you only need to be close. Sometimes we can experience the same amount of injuries, though, but not this night. All players seemed to have been successful in surviving another night of ball, some just barely. Some are feeling the effect of a lengthy season, showing some wounds, limping about and generally looking for pitch runners. Could be the wear and tear of the game, but most likely some have been spending more time off the field then on and are just not used to the rigours of the clumsy athleticism we expect on the field.

That, or we’re just old. Thank goodness when our physical age creeps up on us, we can always depend on our mental age to keep us in the game, lowering the actual age immensely. For better or for worse. Sometimes it’s worth a few knocks to take in a little fun. Sometimes not, but most of us never learn and will show up again and again to test our physical limits just to have more fun. Other than that, I got nothing. But I have blog to fill, so I’ll just meander about for a bit. Aimlessly. Teams that lose are losing, others that are winning, continue to do so, but we all seem to be showing some vestiges of better play, even if it is just in our own mind. And that is all that matters. Mind over matter is what counts and, if you don’t mind, it don’t matter, so you’re best not to give it a second thought. Move on. Try to mind what matters and not mind the rest. It may sound confusing, but I don’t mind. Just mind your matters. Win or lose, it’s all for nought. Winning the season just means you have to lug another trophy about, after you win in the playoffs. Best to let the regular season just slide by (easy for most) and focus on the playoffs, when all bets are on the table and it’s it time to show your best hand. Bigger trophy, too, even though it’s never about size. Or so they say.

I think, other than our waistline, size can be a good thing, The bigger the better, the more the merrier and good things come to those who wait, at least until the playoffs. Then all your waiting is done and it’s time too strut your stuff, take a bigger role. But it is never about the hardware. It’s about the times wasted leading up to the hardware, the fun, the enjoyment, the fall down and get up, hilarious times with your friends and neighbours. Even if they might not classify as friends or neighbours, the people that you enjoy your time with out on the field. Enjoy them or, at least, make use of them for your own enjoyment. Unless you happen to win it all, then it’s about the hardware, too. Nonetheless, best to just take what you can get and make the most of it.
